< The relationship about suicide of teenagers between Korea and USA >


From old times, teenagers are supposed to be our future, since they have infinite possibilities. No matter what cultures or political system, most of the countries try to support their teenagers to develop physically and mentally. However, nowadays, there are some situations to threaten teenagers such as bullying, school violence or pressure for study. From those kinds of causes, teenagers have been getting a lot of painful stress, even they commit suicide without getting any emotional help. People may think the period of teenager is so awesome, so they wonder why they kill themselves or what’s the matter with them? Let us figure out the reason, especially, between Korea and USA teenagers, there is some different factor about teenager suicide such as the suicide rate, leading causes, or method etc.
Here is some part of article about Korean teenager’s suicide. “South Korea is the country which has the largest number of suicide cases among the OECD nations (24.3 people died per 100,000 while the average rate is 11.7)”(1) or other report showed that “the 2010 suicide figure far exceeded deaths caused by traffic accidents, cancer and heart disease”(2) actually, it’s the staggering statistics, and suicide is the primary causes for Korean teenagers’ death. On the other hand, according to “theteendoc website”, likewise in Korea, suicide is highly ranked as a third cause, while injury and accidents is the first causes in USA. This result tells about some different between two countries. According to Wikipedia, “Teenage suicide in the United States remains comparatively high in the 15 to 24 age group with 4,000 suicides in this age range in 2004, making it the third leading cause of death for those aged 15 to 24.”(3) Also, there are distinctive characteristic about USA situations which is different from Korean one.
