거의 한계점에 이르렀으며, 최근 지방자치제에 따른 자치단체의 재정자립도 및 경제활성화, 실업자 고용 및 유휴 시설의 활용 측면에서 home-stay는 하나의 대안으로 등장하게 되었다. 현재 우리나라의 도시 home-stay는 이른바 행사성 home-stay로 국가적인 행사나 지방자치단체가 주관하는 행사를 위하여 봉사하는 차원에서 운영되어 왔다. 그러나 이제 외래관광객들은 대도시나 관광지 주변의 home-stay 가정을 이용하고 싶어하며, 아파트보다는 전통적인 느낌을 살린 가옥이나 단독주택을 선호하고 있다. 도시와 관광지 주변지역에 상시 home-stay 가정을 운영하는 것은 이러한 외래관광객의 수요에 대응하는 방안이라고 할 수 있다.
본 연구는 현 우리나라의 home-stay의 현황과 문제점, 이를 토대로 한 개선사항을 제시하였다는 점에 그 의의를 찾을 수 있으며 home-stay 활성화와 관련된 후속 연구에 기초적 연구가 되고자 하였다.
본 연구의 한계점으로는 home-stay 유형에 따른 보다 세분화된 연구와, 특히 관광행태 변화에 따른 home-stay의 변화 고찰이 이루어지지 못하였고, 또한 도시home-stay의 윤곽과 정확히 조사된 통계치가 없다는 사실이 지적될 수 있겠다.

ABSTRACT
A Study on the Lodging Supply through Home-Stay
Joohyeong Lee
The purpose of this study is to expand requisite lodging facilities in anticipation of the international mega events such as 2002 World Cup through home-stay.
The result of this study indicate as follows:
First, we need a supporting system by the government to extend and rebuild home-stay facilities.
Second, we need a special training Program to educate host-families.
Third, we have to develope reservation system through database.
Fourth, we have to build up systematic promotion strategy and mutual cooperation system between a private organization and the government.
The limitations of this study are as follow. This study was not performed more subdividable study by a type of home-stay.
Therefore, I hope that a further study to overcome this limitations are being expected and would keep some more comparative study.
The contents of this study are as follows: Ⅰ. Introduction to the purpose and method of this study, Ⅱ. Theoretical backgrounds of this study about home-stay, Ⅲ. Present situation of lodging industry against international mega events, Ⅳ. A plan which is to expand requisite lodging facilities through home-stay, Ⅴ. Conclusion.
