Abstract
A Christian Perspective on Post-modern Picture book
The trend in our culture is turning towards post-modernism. This shift is reflected on children's picture book. The purpose of this article is to criticize the worldview of the post-modern picture books from a Christian pespective. To accomplish this task, I have divided this essay into five sections. The first section is introduction. In the second section, I sketch how post-modernism is defined and reflected on children's literature. Next section describes the characteristics of some picture books that were written by post-modern artists such as John Burningham, Jon Schieszka and Akumal Ramachander. The forth section criticizes the worldview of those picture books from a Christian perspective. Finally, this article concludes with cautions about the trend which misinterprets the worldview of post-modern picture books as if it is the most progressive thought in a comtemporary picture book.
