본문내용
Throughout Shakespeare’s famous play, Antony and Cleopatra, referrals to Cleopatra oscillates between that of a goddess and that of a slut. While her image oscillates between the two, the image of a snake is constantly given to her, whether by herself, Antony or their subordinates. The image of a snake represents her excess of lust and destructibility, which extends to showing how afraid people were of women of power and of the Oriental world, eventually helping to rule over women and justify conquering the Oriental world.
