There are certain issues in the world that the public and expert have conflicting opinions on. In some cases, a large majority of public agree while a small number of experts holds a dissenting view. The shared knowledge among the smaller group of expert community often entails greater credibility than that of the wider public. This is because of the preponderance of evidence provided by the expert community based on their extensive knowledge and ability built upon the years of research and practice. The acceptance of knowledge refers to the situation in which a group of people agree for the knowledge to be true, and thus the knowledge becomes shared among the group. In order for the expert community to “accept” the newly claimed knowledge, it is necessary for the claim to be justified with the support of empirical evidence. On the other hand, the public tends to disregard the weight of evidence when accepting the shared knowledge. With that being said, the experts have better ability to judge the quality of knowledge than the general public. Thus, in response to this title, the number of people who accept it cannot solely contribute to the judgment of the quality of knowledge. Instead, the true validity of knowledge can be best measured when it has been accepted by the credible authority, despite the numerical superiority of people who accept it.
