A Value-theoretic Explanation on New Economy and Venture
Nam Hoon Kang (Hanshin University)
This paper argues that New Economy and ventrue can be explained consistently by the labor theory of value. Information revolution has two tendencies: commoditization and the expulsion of unproductive labor. In the U.S., the longest economic expansion is made possible, because the tendency of the rate of profit to fall is counteracted by the expulsion of unproductive labor and the increase of the rate of surplus value. The expulsion of unproductive labor also explains the productivity paradox or delay, and low inflation. Commoditization tendency explains the current low level of unemployment. But such a virtuous cycle cannot last forever. In later stages of information revolution, the level of unemployment and economic inequality will rise.
