(In 1926 Chaplin attempted to produce The Sea Gull starring Edna Purviance with Josef von Sternberg as director. Dissatisfied with the resullts of the scenes shot, he shelved the picture. In the twenties he also contemplated the enactment of the rolle of Napoleon in a serious film, but never developed the idea.)
