물을 재활용함으로써 여러 종류의 고기를 더 많이 잡을 수 있다. 마찬가지로 교육 문제를 해결하는데에도 여러 유형의 방법을 활용할 수 있다. 실험연구는 인과성을 잘 보여줄 수 있으나, 실험의 제약 때문에 실제성에 한계가 있다. 반면, 문화기술 연구는 인과성은 제대로 실증할 수 없으나, 현장에서 이루어지기 때문에 자연 상태에서 이루어지는 행동을 관찰하여 실제성을 높일 수 있다. 이 경우, 두 가지 방법을 모두 활용하면 인과성은 강화되고 실제성도 더 이상 큰 문제가 되지 않을 수 있다.
연구 주제를 보다 충실하게 탐구하기 위해 앞으로 양적, 질적 접근을 통합한 연구들이 증가하게 될 것으로 기대된다. 연구자들은 질적, 양적 접근 모두에 익숙하도록 충분한 준비를 갖추는 것이 바람직하다.
