a of reliability.
Ⅱ-2) Some significant difference will occur in the area of self-control.
Ⅱ-3) Some significant difference will occur in the area of initiative.
Ⅱ-4) Some significant difference will occur in the area of diligence.
Ⅱ-5) Some significant difference will occur in the area of identity.
For the stud
y, 30 male students of a middle school on Cheju Island were selected through interviewing individually ,and they were divided into a counseling group of 15 students and a comparing group of 15 students.
The volunteer club activity program of volunteer activities and mind training activities as service learning was developed by referring to the preceding literature. For a volunteer activity the students worked for the old people at Wonkwang sanatorium, and for a mind training program they participated in the inside/outside training activities and a meditation program. The volunteer club activity program of this study consisted of a one night and two days program and a two nights and three days program.
For the self-identity test sheet of this study, the self-identity test sheet of the developmental steps made by Kim, Hyoung Tae(1989) was used. For the data processing, the pretest and post test of the counseling group and the comparing group were analyzed with SPSS/PC+, and its effect on self-identity of the counseling group and the comparing group was examined through the t-verification of the 1% meaningful level.
Through the procedures, the following results were achieved:
First, some significant difference in the counseling group who participated in the volunteer club activity occurred in the total score of the self-identity scale.
Second, some significant difference in the counseling group who participated in
the volunteer club activity occurred in the sub-areas of self-control, initiative, and identity; however, significant difference did not occur in the sub-areas of reliability and diligence.
As a result, the volunteer club activity improves the several sub-areas of the self-identity of youths.
Based on the results, some suggestions can be given as follows:
First, the volunteer club activity can satisfy the various needs of youths and also can contribute to their growth and development, considering that the development of various programs should precede to establish their self-esteem, an important developmental task of youth, and activate the volunteer activities being spread today.
Second, the youth volunteer activity today should desirably be settled according to the principle of volunteer activities but in the social and cultural environment of Korea it's also desirable to activate them through structured volunteer activities as service learning.
Third, the volunteer activity in which teachers and students participate together can be promoted, considering that in this study the volunteer club was made centering a school. Therefore, the country should prepare some complementary measures to induce teachers' active participation.
