This story starts with the death of Mr. Henry Dashwood’s uncle. But the inheritance should pass to Henry’s son John and John's young son, and not to his three daughters Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret. When Henry Dashwood dies, he makes his son promise to provide all his family, but he doesn’t keep the promise. The four Dashwood women, including Mrs. Dashwood, move to another house, where Marianne meets Colonel Brandon. Marianne thinks the Colonel is too old for romance.
