The tuition increase has become one of the hot issues in Korean society. As the

price of staple commodities has risen, the tuition of university in Korea is going up

much more than that. Early in 2008, the tuition increase rate of private universities in

Korea is estimated at 6.8% on the average – Yonsei University at 8.9%, Ewha Woman’s

University at 7.7%, ChungAng University at 6.8%, and Hanyang University at 7.82%.

The tuition increase is also on the agenda in most public universities. In fact, Seoul

National University will raise their tuition by 6.2%, Chungbuk University by 14.5%,

and Kangwon University by 12%. Meanwhile the average price of staple commodities

increases 2.5% in the past three years – 2.8% in 2005, 2.2% in 2006, and 2.5% in 2007.
