본문내용

Equal opportunity in a workplace context means that all employees have equal right to access opportunities that are available at work. This means all employees are treated with fairness and respect in that they are not subject to discrimination or harassment in the workplace (Commonwealth Government of Australia 2001-2008a, online). However, with increasing diversity in organizations, many kinds of inequalities exist in the workplace such as gender, age and disability discrimination (Patrickson 2001, eds., p. 2), so such disadvantaged minority groups have suffered from unfair treatment in the workplace (Allan et al. 2008, p. 225). Handling inequalities can be challenging, but they also lead to very important advantages, groups and organizations, so it has become an important issue to them (Harvey & Allard 2005, p. 42). For that reason, there seems to be a tendency that some individuals, groups and organizations have struggled to change the discrimination against disadvantaged people in the workplace (Zeytinoglu 2005, online). Regarding this matter, this essay will analyze several inequalities existing in the workplace with the use of real facts focusing on gender, age and disability and demonstrate the role of the participants within employments relations by discussing the responses from the state, employers and unions.
