Some people argue that U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War was worthless because it cost the U.S. much money and caused many casualties without a satisfactory result. However, U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War was crucial because not only did the U.S fear and desire to prevent the spread of communism, but also it had a moral obligation to help the South Vietnamese, who faced harsh living conditions to have better lives and secure freedom from the violent attacks of North Vietnam. The U.S. involvement was necessary because it had to protect South Vietnamese from North Vietnamese aggression. They could not just ignore “the long-suffering people of South Vietnam” (Westmoreland 1). In addition, the power of North Vietnamese military was stronger than that of South Vietnamese military when North Vietnamese were attacking South Vietnamese unjustly.
