The first thing that I want to analysis in those three poems is that words are more important than ideas. Each poem uses words as a metaphor which is major role to consist a poem compared with ideas that do not give a strong impression to readers.
Firstly, I am going to talk about Sylvia Plath’s “Metaphors”. What we learned from this poem is the metaphor that shows a hidden meaning that gives a strong impression to readers. So many words such as “a riddle”, “nine syllables”, “An elephant” and “a cow in calf” make a poem completely. I suddenly came up with a question that why poets do not tell us the real meaning directly like this sentence "I’m a pregnancy woman”, instead “I’m a riddle in nine syllables,” Why? Because, I think poets are sometimes reluctant to say something frankly, trying to conceal their mind or emotion or revealing the real mind that is probably taboo in that era
