The name no-no boy itself implies a person who finds his identity at the crossroads between his ancestry and the society where he is. No-no boys were Japanese boys in the United States who were qualified to join the U.S. military during the Second World War. These boys professed that they have no allegiance to Japan but would not go to war for the United States either; hence, the two “no’s” or “no-no.” These boys are aware that they owe America some loyalty because it is the place of their birth or it is where they grew up.
