graduating in February 2005. The reason why I decided to major in business instead of clothing and textile related field was because I thought that business management skill is essential to operate any kind of business. However, I realized during my university life that the knowledge of business management alone was not enough to make my dream come true. So I decided to work as part time employee at the Dongdaemoon market, the biggest fashion mall in Seoul, during school breaks. Only simple tasks such as market research, organizing new products, wrapping, and selling in the shop were given to me. However, it was a great opportunity with real experience in actual working situation and it also affected me in deciding my future path. After then, I and a friend of mine once operated a small online shopping mall. We sold clothes through internet website. Even though it ended in a failure because we were students with no professional knowledge and experience, we gained confidence that we could be successful next time if we fix our problems. I am still thinking of getting more experience in that field before I go to the U.S. to study fashion merchandising.
Through those experiences, I realized that I need more professional, systemized knowledge to do what I want. This is the reason why I want to major in fashion merchandising as my second university major. There are people around me who wonder about my decision to study in U.S. as an undergraduate student after all those years I spent in my university life and degree in Korea. However, I consider the foundation as the most important part of any kinds of learning, so I want to study step by step from the beginning.
