ABSTRACT
Presented in this paper is the method to analyze the distribution of electromagnetic forces on magnetic materials needed to understand and control the vibration and noise caused by electromagnetic exciting forces. While the theories for the distribution of electromagnetic forces in the conducting components of an electrical machinery are firmly defined, only the global force, not the distribution, is defined on magnetic materials. In this paper, the method to get the global force was applied to the small rigid body modelling to get the force of a small rigid body and the distribution of the electromagnetic forces in magnetic materials are approximated. The continuity is preserved, and the conservation of energy is maintained for the region of interest.
To confirm the usefulness of getting the distribution of electromagnetic forces in magnetic materials with small rigid body, cancelation of the forces, making the global force to zero and the convergence of the global force are checked with finite element method. Maximum distortion of a cantilever caused by the attractive force of the magnetization of an electromagnet was measured to ensure if the analysis of the distribution of electromagnetic forces is performed correctly. Validation of the proposed method by comparing the analysis and the experiment result of the cantilever distortion revealed that the method is especially useful for calculation of the distribution of electromagnetic forces in electromagnetic applications
with electromagnetic excitation force.
