본문내용

g you agree with, feel free to express agreement and use the opportunity to bring in an important point you may not have been able to raise earlier;
. Be prepared for hard questions at any point during the interviews;
. Keep facts and arguments short and sharp.
⑤ For radio interviews:
. Provide written material on the background of the disability issue to the interviewer in advance;
. Focus on issues, names and examples according to whether the radio station is local, regional or national;
. Speak into the microphone;
. In a recorded interview, ask to do it again if you have made a serious mistake.
5) ORGANIZING NEW SCONFERENCES
① News conferences are used to:
. Simultaneously present information to many media persons;
. Field questions about information presented at the conference or earlier in another form (such as a press release).
② Invitations, whether sent by phone, facsimile (fax), or post should tell who is to chair the press conference, and they should provide a brief overview of the subject. The quality of the invitations will help determine the extent of media person's attendance.
③ Be sell prepared. Give each reporter a "press kit" containing any relevant charts, photographs, graphs, illustrations, fact sheets and a copy of any prepared statement to be presented at the press conference.
④ The names and positions of all persons involved in giving a press conference should be clearly and prominently displayed.
⑤ Use a reliable and effective public address system, including equipment for electronically connecting tape recorders to it.
⑥ The person giving the press conference may not be able to answer all questions posed. It is acceptable to have assistants (pre-arranged and in the form of a panel) respond to questions in their areas of expertise. Say, "I don't know" and "I cannot answer that question" where appropriate. Invite the interviewers to contact you later for the information if it is obtainable.
⑦ Timing and adequate advance notice are important. Unless your programme is already among the mass media's top stories, a hastily called or badly timed press conference has little chance of success.
5. MONITORING, EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK
① Monitor the extent, accuracy and fairness of mass media coverage of disabled persons and disability issues.
② Critically examine media products with a view to their handling of disability issues. Bring the matter to the attention of the media when they are wrong.
③ Provide feedback to editors, producers and reporters in the accuracy and balance of their portrayals through:
. Personal contact;
. Letters;
. Special feedback sessions.
④ When a particular media product is seriously misleading, the more quickly you register a complaint with editors and producers, the more you will be able to impress them that something is very wrong.
. Be concise in your communication with them.
. Always follow up telephone complaints with letters.
⑤ Compliment your media contacts for a job well done, where appropriate.
