ion structure. The continulty of the meanings between the two sentences is based on the relationality. Relationality explains not only the literal meaning but also the intended meanlng which is formed by situation or backgroud knowledges.
Relation structure is what shows the relations of the sentences which is connected by the relationality as a structured form. Relation structure shows the structure, which is made up of the whole contents of the text, in a tree-diagram by means of unifynig power.
To speak briefly, text analysis is to divide the text according to analytical units and grasp the relations of them. This study set up relation unit as an analysis unit. Relation unit means the unit that makes choherence and coherence is based on the relations between the unified thinking unit. By the way the unit that shows a unified thinking unit is sentence. Connotative sentence and subordinate conjunctive sentence is excluded from the analytical unit because the analysis of this study is based on the relationality and they are not directly concerned with forming the relationality. There are collection, addition, deduction, cause/effect, comparison/contrast, problem/solution, specification, and meta-discourse among the types which consists of the relation units. In the process of the analysis what is regarded as important in this study is the order of the sentence presentation. Because the order of the sentence presentation determines the text structure.
Educational applicaions of the analysis method are divided into the importance of the information and the organisation and structure of the text. This study applied the importance of the information to main idea, summarizing, reading evaluation. Main idea mean the most important information in the text. So in the tree diagram that shows the results of the content structure analysis, the top-level information becomes the main idea of the text. Summarizing also is based on the importance of the information. So the text is summarized around the top-level information in the tree diagram that shows the importance of the information with hierachical stuructures. Tree diagram shows the structure of the information that consists of the text. So tree diagram offers the basis for the paragraph dividing. This study proposed the sameness of the level in the hierachical structure of the tree diagram as a principle for the paragraph dividing. And the analysis method invented by this study was applied to students' writing analysis.
The discourse study or the text analysis study have great possivilities to be applied educationally. As one aspect of these possivilities, this study studied the method for the content structure amalysis of the text that can be applied educationally and applied it to the important matters of the Korean language education.
