An Analysis of Women's Sports in Socio-Cultural Context

The purpose of this study was to investigate the women's attitudes toward sex-role in sports and the social perceptions on women's sport participation. The general social attitudes toward women's sport participation have been changing positively. According to various types of researches, women's sport participation is becoming popular among many women and girls. However, based on the philosophy of male supremacy, women's sports still need to overcome various types of social barriers, such as negative perceptions on women's sport participation. In addition, it is necessary to understand adequate women's sex-role through sport socialization process. According to sport participation, women need to understand the significant aspects of women's sports and their continuous participation in sports. With the recent improvement of social environment for women, women's sports and their sport participation need to be understood as meaningful aspects of their everyday life in contemporary society.
