수 있게 만든 cell을 의미한다. 화학처리에 쓰이는 시약은 다음과 같이 여러가지가 있으며 이 중 가장 중요한 것은 calcium chloride이다.
Calcium Chloride
Manganase Chloride
Hexamminecobalt Chloride
Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO)
Competent cell을 이용한 transformation의 과정은 다음 모식도와 같다. CaCl2로 처리하여 competent cell로 만들면 plasmid가 cell에 들어갈 수 있게 된다. Heat shock을 가하면 plasmid 가 cell 안으로 들어가는 효율을 증가시킬 수 있다.
