“It’s so hot! Why don’t you turn on the air con?” Air con? What is air con? We can hear this word in everywhere easily. And we also use this word. Is it English word? Or Korean? It is ‘Konglish’. Have you ever heard about that? It is the use of English words (or words derived from English words) in a Korean context. The words, having initially been taken from English language, are either actual English word in Korean context, or are made from a combination of Korean and English words (Encyclopedia in Internet). In Korea, there are many Konglish words we use. Well, why is this made? And is this good or bad? In the origin of Konglish, much Konglish appeared following the Korean War when US troops mixed with Korean troops and English vocabulary and in 20th century under the rule of Japanese imperialism, Konglish was affected from Japanese.
