knowing a word means knowing its associated grammar
the associated grammar of a word is those patterns of words that typically co-occur with it.
e.g. a word like say has a different grammar from a word like tell
say : V that ( as in She says (that) she is cold )
☞ admit, explain, report, state, suggest
tell : V n that ( as in He told me (that) he was broke)
☞ convince, inform, persuade, promise, remind, warn
