emulsions. Emulsion polymerization depend on the kind of monomer, quality of water, kind of initiator, amount of surfactant, temperature and other reaction parameters.
In the first, we had to make the solution definitely. Put the water, initiator, monomer(styrene) and also surfactant into the flask. But we separate 6 of teams and each team have different amount of sodium lauryl sulfate, surfactant. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 teams have 0.12g, 0.20g, 0.30g, 0.50g, 0.60g, 0.70g each surfactant. Actually, surfactant is needed as no much, and no less, just medium. Medium amount of surfactant that is our team. In the theory, our team has got the most amount of polystyrene, but we couldn't know actually about this.
And we had to shake the flask with reflux condenser that is very hard exercise. Also we couldn't know about solution was blending exactly well. Also we had to heat it during we shake it, so it's very hard process that human being do. We should have to use machine can shake hardly test-tube during heat it on constant temperature.
Fifth process of this experiment, we add 10ml alumn in the solution. Alumn is made of 100ml D.W. and Aluminium sulfate 2.5g. But it is made by preliminary company. So we couldn't guess about this accuracy. Therfore, we have to measure this exactly and reflect it in results. Or we have to make the solution each company.
We also had to dry that apparatus, every experimental fixture, but we couldn't have much time before, so we should have to use it, not perfectly dry them. It may be impossible to accurate result of this experiment. So we will have to dry apparatus before we make an experiment to use it possibly.
Finally, we should have to use the water bath instead of thermostat, heating at 70 with reflux condenser, but we couldn't. Because water's temperature heat about flask and flask heat the solution, it has many problems in thermo-dynamical theory of errors and also room temperature is not regular. And we had shook it with hands, it might be asked whether heat it or keep warm it.
