무렵 뭔가를 찍기를 기다리면서 Tajikistan의 한 작은 마을에 있었던 적이 있어요.
I was wandering about with nobody around when I saw a kid walking down the road.
▷제가 주변에 아무사람이 없어서 헤매고 있었을 때 길을 걷고 있는 한 아이를 봤어요.
Then more kids joined up.
▷그런 다음 더 많은 아이들이 함께했어요.
I followed them, and they ended up in this schoolyard.
▷그 아이들을 따라갔는데, 그 아이들은 이 학교 뜰에서 끝냈어요.(멈춤)
By then the sun was rising behind me.
▷그때쯤 해가 내 뒤로 떠오르고 있었어요.
It was extremely bright, and focused on those kids.
▷극도로 밝았고, 그 아이들에게 집중해 있었어요.
If you look at that picture, the shadow is right behind them.
▷그 사진을 보면 그림자가 그 아이들 뒤에 있어요.
That means that, if they look toward me, they can't see me because I'm in the glare of the sun.
▷그 말은 그들이 내 쪽을 보면, 제가 해의 환한 빛 안에 있기 때문에 절 볼 수 없다는 것을 의미하죠.
So, I got a very natural picture of them preparing for school in incredible light.
▷그래서 전 엄청난 빛 속에서 학교를 준비하는 매우 자연스러운 그들의 사진을 얻게 되었어요.
Q: Finally, what do you think it takes to become a great photographer?
▷마지막으로, 훌륭한 사진작가가 되려면 뭐가 필요하다고 생각하세요?
Well, there is not that much economic motivation, considering the difficulty of selling pictures and getting in the door.
▷음, 사진을 팔고 그 계통에 발을 들이는 데 어려움을 고려해 보면, 경제의 동기는 별로 없어요.
What it takes is basically passion; you have to be really obsessed by your craft.
▷필요한 게 있다면 기본적으로 열정이죠. 정말로 자신의 일에 집착해야 합니다.
Especially today, with the competition being what it is, to be a success you really have to eat and drink photography.
▷특히 오늘날은 경쟁이 치열하니까, 성공을 하기 위해선 정말로 사진을 먹고 마셔야 합니다.
It's passion that drives you forward.
▷그것의 열정이 당신을 앞으로 나아가게 이끌거에요.
