Women were strictly prohibited from being admitted to scientific societies.

Because her father encouraged her to show her knowledge at social gatherings, her reputation as a scientist grew. Local scholars were so impressed that they invited her to study at the University of Bologna. In 1732, she became the world’s first female professor of science.
