A Study on the Health Perception and
Health Promoting Lifestyle of the early childhood teacher

This study was designed to identify the relationship between health perception and health promoting lifestyle of the kindergarten teacher. The subjects were 211 early childhood teacher from public and private kindergarten institutions. The collected data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficient was used by SPSS program. The results of this study were as follows: 1)The mean scores of the variables were as follows: health perception status was 2.70-0.28, health promoting lifestyle was 2.65-0.37. The highest sub factor of health promoting lifestyle was self actualization (3.08-0.35) and the lowest one of responsibility(2.33-0.52). 2)Among the general characteristic variables, economic status(F=2.780, p=.031) showed connections to health perception. 3)Among the general characteristic variables, type of kindergarten(F=3.950, p=.050), age(F=4.126, p=.004), career(F=3.154, p=.028), marriage status(F=7.070, p=.001) showed strong connections to health promoting lifestyle. Especially the public kindergarten scores were higher than the private kindergarten in nutrition & exercise(t=2.926, p<.01) and health responsibility(t=2.682, p<.01) among the sub factor of health promoting lifestyle. 4)Health perception was correlated with health promoting lifestyle(r=.508, p<.001), self actualization(r=.405, p<.001), nutrition & exercise(r=.431, p<.001), health responsibility(r=.270, p<.001), interpersonal support(r=.240, p<.05), and stress management(r=.477, p<.001).
