례의 데이터화를 이루어 경험적인 연구를 진행한다면 세계체제의 구조적 변수가 지배적 변수임을 입증할 수도 있을 것이다. 그런 연구는 지역체제 전체를 일반화시키려는 노력보다는 특정 지역체제를 경험적 대상으로 실험 설계할 때 더 잘 진행될 수도 있을 것이다.
그리고 이 연구에서 적용한 상관관계 분석은 종속변수와 독립변수의 상호 관계만을 나타내며, 실제 원인과 결과를 밝히지는 못한다. 그러므로 지역 군비통제 협약 달성의 요인들을 정확하게 규명하기 위해서는 보다 인과관계를 잘 설명할 수 있는 분석 방법을 다시 적용할 필요가 있다. 이 글에서는 인과관계보다는 군비통제 진전을 설명할 수 있는 기존 국제 관계 이론의 적실성을 검토하는 것에 중점을 두고 있었다.
