February, 2007, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced officially a newly revised ‘course of study of Korean subject in 2007', to comply the problems of previous course of study and to reflect the reality of rapidly changing language. It is going to be applied in a phased manner with the beginning of the elementary school in 2009. Unlike previous comprehensive revision of the course of study, as a part of occasional and partial revision policy, the authority revised and complemented the operating problems, with the preservation of the basic characteristics and philosophy of 'Seventh Course of Study of Korean subject'. But it is necessary to study these things urgently, under the circumstance of many changes in course of study by each composition system and comprehensive revision of textbooks. Accordingly, by analyzing characteristics of 'Course of study of Korean subject in 2007', in order that the revised course of study that will be applied in 2009 to be operated well in physical education fields, this research is to help teacher's understanding, to predict the editing course of the text book, and to be a basis of further studies.
To accomplish these things above, we were to study and to analyze the amendments of 'Revised Course of Study of Korean subject in 2007', to compare it with 'Seventh Course of Study of Korean subject', and to understand it under the context of the general remarks of 'Revised Course of Study in 2007'. Besides, we were also to supply its basis through research papers, data booklets from public hearing or forum written by scholars such as Jae-gi Lee, In-je Lee, and so on.
Based on these materials, we examined closely and analyzed ‘The revision background and the emphasis of course of study of Korean subject in 2007' in comparison with ’Seventh course of study of Korean subject'. We also studied the characteristics of the revision background and the emphasis of course of study per each component constituting the contents, to find out how they are reflected actually to 'Course of study of Korean subject in 2007'.
Course of study is similar to a guidebook to enhance learner's capacity of Korean language in actual education fields. Without the understanding and interesting of the subject of the education, Korean language education will be lost its direction to advance. And so to elevate the Korean language ability without any lost of its direction, it is necessary to understand deeply the guidebook of 'course of study of Korean language'. As a subject of Korean language education, we hope this research will help the development of Korean language education and the achievement of the goal through the characteristics research of 'Revised course of study of Korean subject in 2007'.
