On March 30, 1945, Eric Patric Clapton was born in his grandmother's house in Surrey, England. He was an illegitimate son of Patricia Molly Clapton and Edward Fryer, a Canadian soldier stationed in England. Thus, Clapton was raised by his grandmother, Rose Clapp. His surname came from Rose's ex-husband, Reginald Cecil Clapton. As an adolescent, Clapton dreamed about the future as a blues and R&B singer. However he commenced studies at The Kingston College of Art, but he was expelled at seventeen for playing guitar in class.
