d of public service or cultural education institution because the foundation purpose of it shall be contributing to the development of art and culture as well as cultural education for public, by preserving, exhibiting, and investigating the possessed items. In addition, it could provide a secondary education other than official curriculum in schools, that is, the opportunities to see cultural vestiges and art works actually for students to whom an appreciation education is very important. However, it has been contained too much problems to be an education institution.
More than anything else, it can be utilized as social education institution when education system is developed and maintained systematically guaranteeing diversity and high quality. Then education-specialized department is relevant inside museum and appropriate deployment of human resources.
In abroad, it has been developing education system since the foundation of museum based on the belief that an 'education' is important for communicating with publics. But there are many problems in Korea such as social restraints, lack of expertise, and unstable current education systems, which result in the phenomenon that Korean museum couldn't succeed in providing social education.
Hence, it is presented of improvement method in this thesis based on researching current education systems in Korean museums, art galleries, and art training schools, compared with foreign systems later.
In the process of research, Korean status is based on actual interviews and documents and foreign one is referred from the documents and dissertations on Internet.
Specifically, Chapter 2 covers the history and importance of museum education system and how its system has been developed from its launching. Chapter 3 can be main focus of this research, presenting the analysis of diverse education systems in domestic and foreign museums; the national Folk Museum of Korea, National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea, in2museum system of Institute of Museum Education in Korea, and the foreign systems of Tate Modern in England, Centre Pompidou of France, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA(The Museum of Modern Art)in U.S.A. Finally, the current problems in Korea and ways to improving it are concluded in Chapter 4 by comparing and analyzing the examples above.
In conclusion, it is difficult to do research and development in Korea because it is not introduced education-specialized department yet and development of education programs is outsourced that leads to lack of expertise continually.
So this research is focused on support though proposing the methods to improve such problems for museums, in order that it can become social education institution based on robust education system with professional human resources. Then the education system could drive keen participation of governmental agency, enterprises, schools, and educational institutions, for providing interconnected education systems in the future.
