Digital Economy and Statistics
〈Abstract〉
Digital revolution such as internet and e-commerce changes the interactions among households, firms and governments and the economic structure as a result. Understanding these changes helps to interpret the trends in micro- and macro-economy statistics better and develop the new statistics in the digital economy. To set the right policies and strategies, the demand for the accurate data related to the digital economy is growing in private sector as well as public sector.
This paper makes two suggestions. First, it is a matter of collection and rearrangement. Since most of statistics to explain the digital economy have been produced in the related government departments, it is necessary to collect these data and rearrange them. Second, it is matter of timing. Since the development and application of the digital technology grows so fast, it is necessary to produce timely data more than ever.
