(Abstract)
A Case of Study on Learner Needs and
Satisfaction over ESP Courses

In order to produce a competitive person in the internationalized era, university General English programs try to provide a variety of courses with an aim of improving students' communicative competence. As a result, for university students who continuously study their professional territory and develop the territory by working on the related job, universities should provide ESP courses which focus on personal purposes and needs.
Among these social needs, the researcher tried to know learners' needs and overall satisfaction of ESP courses by conducting a questionnaire composed of seventeen questions related to the necessity of ESP, the usefulness of ESP, the suitability of ESP lectures, the suitability of ESP teaching materials, and interest in ESP courses. A total of 24 questionnaires was gathered and analyzed from learners who took English Interview at Dankook university.
The findings of this study are that many learners take English Interview because they believe the course would help them with work after graduation. Learners also expect better chances to learn more practical parts of English with native professors. Learners show positive perceptions towards the ESP course, which means that they are overall satisfied with the state of the course.
These are some suggestions based on the questionnaire. First, the goal of ESP general English education should be arranged under more specific aims and with a level-specific curriculum. Second, universities had better set up the general English education for students to prepare them for work in the future and to improve their business ability. Also, professors should let the learners participate during the class naturally through spontaneous questions, answers and various activities.
