Cultural Invasion of Multi-national Enterprise and
Its Corresponding Device

The agendas of nationalism, protectionism, regulation and intervention by the government are being replaced by those of globalization, free trade, deregulation and a market economy. Globalization by means of open-door and deregulation policy is looked upon as an insurmountable wave of our times and is emerging as the only medicine to cure the Korean economic crisis.

Nevertheless, at this point in time, it still seems imperative to seriously review and discuss the social atmosphere where economic value holds a rein over cultural virtues. Can the fear of standardized westernization funneled by multi-nationalism remain purely groundless and be criticized just as out-of-date national sentiment?
Multinationals used to focus on securing economic benefits first, paying little attention to the cultural character and sentiments of local people. They labelled the veto on them owing to cultural collision simply as the expression of a sort of inferiority complex or lowbrow policy of seclusion.
Here lies the reason why we do not hesitate to bring forward the issues of cultural conflict and emotional disapproval in spite of the numberless benefits and merits multinational enterprises can provide.
Globalization fed on the monopoly and standardized culture should be stopped from proceeding. The present process of globalization is taking the road of no return despite some arguments as to its economic efficiency. An accountable community should be in a position to prepare consistent and effective measures to cope with the side effects of globalization and to newly institutionalize the responsibility of companies which are rendered especially strong powers through globalization.
In this study, I suggest to take as an alternative to the citizens' society movement of our country, a movement for regional currency.
