Abstract

An Exploratory Factor Analysis of Intrinsic

Motivation Inventory in Physical Education Skill Class

The purpose of the study was to obtain construct validity and internal consistency for the Korean version of Intrinsic Motivation Inventory. Originally, the inventory was made by McAuley et al.(1991) on the basis of cognitive evaluation theory and has been widely used by researchers and educators. The researcher and other 2 experts in the field of Korean and English involved in translating English version of IMI into Korean. The Korean version of IMI was modified reflecting physical education skill class in university. The subjects participated in the study were 256 university students, who completed Korean version of IMI prior to Physical education skill class. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed 4 factors.
However, English version of IMI had 5 factors. For deeper understanding of the difference, comparative cultural study would be a good solution to approach.
