There is a story in ancient China about exaggerated advertising. It is about two traders; one is selling a spear, and the other is selling a shield. The first one says, “This spear is most powerful weapon in this world. It is so powerful that it can pierce everything.” While he is advertising his spear, the guy in the next store is enticing people to buy his shield. He says, “This shield is most stable buckler in this world. It is so strong that it can defend every weapon.” Their advertisements do not make any sense since it is impossible for a blade that can cut through anything and a shield that cannot be cut to exist together. At least one of those sellers is exaggerating. This story illustrates what advertisement does today. Just like in the story, advertisers today exaggerate the effectiveness and usefulness of their products to create the impulse of buying among people.
