Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation that designs and markets consumer electronics, computer software, and personal computers. The company's best-known hardware products include the Macintosh line of computers, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

2. History

(1) 1970’s
1976 – Apple was established by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak
First, they set up the company at garage of Jobs and made computer named 'AppleⅠ'. But, AppleⅠ had no case, keyboard and required several hours of laborious assembly by hand. Thereafter, Apple developed Apple Ⅱ that incorporated a disk drive and started to sell it. It increased the sales of apple and maintained the company.

Ⅲ. Strategy of Apple

1. Corporate level.

(1) Horizontal Integration: Acquisition.

Apple only engages in acquisitions very actively and has been very successful on it. They’ve acquired many companies that have products, services, personnel, and technologies that complement Apple’s strategic direction and product portfolio. For example, after acquisition of “PA semi”, chip making company, Apple developed ‘A4’chip that goes into iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone4. Other acquisitions of Emagic and PowerSchool were aimed to improve the company’s value by adding valuable skills, knowledge, and products of acquired company.
