ABSTRACT: These days, quality of life is regarded as one of the most important things. There are many things to be considered to improve the quality of life. Among them, there is
thermal comfort that means the state that human feels comfort in temperature system. This factor plays important role in maintaining pleasant state. We can worry about this in interior
space. We can expect that cold air will be got into the room from outside in winter and it is not good for human’s feeling. This phenomenon, called downdraft, is generated by natural
convection downflow of cold air near window surface. It causes occupant’s discomfort due
to localized cooling effect resulting from heat loss. We should dispose of this situation for more better space to be. Here, we introduce radiant floor heating system (hereinafter RFHS) to decrease the downdraft.
In this study, we perform CFD simulation to know the best method of RFHS. Our object is
that to prevent downdraft from cold window by using RFHS. We use Boussinesq model for
natural convection. By dividing cases into 4 different areas, we compared the results to get the most effective method for each specific real cases. We observed the temperature and
velocity gradient and draft rate (hereinafter DR) to know motion of flow and how the effect of downdraft for occupants is. As a result, we know that the case 1 of narrow area had
uniform distribution of temperature that will be suitable for high ceiling buildings like
church. And the case 4 of wide area had stable distribution of temperature that will be more suitable for low ceiling building like apartments.
