본문내용

we need to recover the loss of biblical preaching, work of Holy Spirit, restoring the text focused-gospel driven preaching. One of the possible resolution is using the Christian Year and Lectionary.
Christian Year had been used annually, since the ancient days in the Old Testament to the birth of Christ, his ministry, death, resurrection and advent of Christ, in order to recreate the salvation experience for Christians until today. Church calendar is great tool to remind the believers about God’s grace. The systematic approach which is focused on the worship and liturgy is lectionary. Choosing the text and preaching according to lectionary can be a great alternative for the problems we faced in today’s pulpit.
For this reason, this thesis introduces Christian Year and lectionary through various sources and possible usage in the context of Korean church.
First in Chapter 2, presented the importance and formation of Christian Year. The relationship between the Christianity and time is introduced and in relation to Christian Year. Also, dealt with how Christian Year was formed from the Old Testament to New Testament and historical significance of Christian Year in today’s church. Chapter 3, unfamiliar and awkward lectionary in Korean context is explained. In order to discover the useful aspects of Church calendar, observed closely on structure and necessary elements. Examined how lectionary was formed in reformed tradition and define the historical significance and value. Also, characteristics and contents of Revised Common Lectionary which is widely used today, was analyzed for pros and cons for sermon preparation for today.
The main focus of this thesis is in Chapter 4, problems of actual application of lectionary usage in Korean church context and proposed possible solutions. Also, terms and memorial sacrements that are exclusively available in Korea only and problematic ones that are not applicable in Korea are sorted in order to recreate a unique and appropriate Korean Christian Year for today. First, scriptural references and topic suggestions for unique seasons and memorial days in Korean Churches. Second is the proposal of three year lectionary that is appropriate for Korean church.
From this analysis, there are few important matters must be remembered. By readdressing the benefit and useful topic from the Church calendar, therefore, preachers may preach according to the word of God using lectionary. Also, possibility of using Western lectionary, applicable usage of lectionary in Korean context is proposed in this thesis. Cultural difference in some lectionary contents may cause conflicts when applied in Korean church but many of them are similar and make sense when reconsidered in Korean context.
In conclusion, there is more than possible reasons for why lectionary can be used in Korean church context. Thus, this thesis challenges the understanding of Christian Year and practical utilization of lectionary in Korean church context.
