래 시스템의 변화는 이미 시작되었으며, 이제는 상거래 시스템에서 가장 중요한 지불시스템을 선점하려는 선진국들의 경쟁이 치열하게 진행되고 있다. 일상에서 행하여지던 상거래 행위가 사이버 공간으로 이동되어지면, 이 상거래 시스템을 통제하는, 나아가서는 지불시스템을 통제하는 주체가 앞으로의 국가 경쟁력을 좌우할 주요 변수로 등장하게 될 것이다. 이러한 전자지불 시스템은 법·제도적으로나 기술적으로 많은 연구와 투자가 이루어져야하며, 전자지불 시스템 경쟁에서 낙오된다면 국가적 차원에서 여러 경제 주체에게 많은 피해를 안겨줄 것이다.
본 논문에서는 전자화폐방식의 지불시스템의 분류와 갖추어져야 하는 기본적인 조건 등을 언급하였다. 기술적으로 용이한 일은 아니지만 사용자들이 요구하는 조건들을 충족시킬 수 있는 전자지불 시스템 구축을 위한 다양한 기술 개발들이 진행되어져야 할 것이다. 구체적으로 국내 사용자들이 어떠한 부문을 시스템 제약 요인으로 선택하였는지에 대해서는 간단한 설문조사를 통하여 언급하였다. 시스템 개발자와 기획자는 이러한 항목들에 대한 신중한 고려를 통하여 보다 사용자를 만족시킬 수 있는 시스템 개발에 노력하여야 할 것이다.

The rapid proliferation of internet and change of business environment cause broad development of electronic commerce. There is tremendous demand for the ability to be able to electronically buy and sell goods or services over Internet. Before the end of this decade, millions of individuals an companies will be selling, buying, brokering, bidding and collaborating on a daily basis.

In general, the electronic commerce consists of information search, order, payment, and delivery of goods and services. The convenience and benefit of electronic commerce is incomplete without electronic payment system. The electronic payment system is the one of the most important factors that enable electronic commerce to be successful.
In order to get a better understanding of electronic payment systems, this paper provides an overview, kinds, premised items, problems of electronic payment system. A lot of electronic payment systems in Korea have been proposed on the internet. The objective of this paper is to propose the direction for improvement of electronic payment system and to find out problems of electronic payment system that have been proposed in Korea.
