Intervention Process Model
of Violence Modeling on Adolescents
from Watching Television

The harmful effects of watching television have been discussed in relation to the violent behaviors of children and adolescents. Exposure to aggressive models on television can increase the subsequent aggressive behavior of adolescents. Heavy doses of television violence can affect the attitudes of adolescents as well and lead them to view violence as an acceptable and effective way to deal with interpersonal conflict. Adolescents learn that violence works for both the good guys and the guys from television. Viewers frequently show little emotional reaction when viewing televised aggression and adolescents who watch televised violence may become indifferent to real-life violence.
In order to prevent the influences of television violence on adolescents, pervasive interventions are needed. The present study proposes an intervention model to prevent the influence of violence on adolescents from watching television. The model indicates that interventions must be made throughout the production of the making consideration of relevant factors such as TV program producers, program providers, deliberative council, school environment, peer groups, family environment, and life styles of the adolescents.
