The Jonathan Livingston Seagull is written by Richard Bach. Richard joined the Air Force and he acquired a pilot's license in 1957. Richard has left record of flight more than 3,000 hours. Because he has pilot's license, he can feel like Jonathan, which is main character in this book. The story has background that is at the sea and sky. I feel it’s peaceful and freedom. While Jonathan is flying over the sea and the sky, the writer tell us sea and sky mean Jonathan’s place to dream comes true. Jonathan is a seagull, who enjoys practicing hard to fly higher, free and beautiful. He overcomes his difficult situations and then he gives his all ability to Fletcher, who is a Jonathan’s student. This novel tells us not only Jonathan's challenge, suffering and frustration but also Jonathan's hope and life.
There are two main characters in this book. One is Jonathan seagull who dreams flying higher and further. Jonathan was different from all the other seagulls who chase fishing boats hunting for fish. Jonathan fulfills his dream and he is the happiest seagull ever. The other character is Fletcher seagull. He also enjoys flying in the sky and likes to challenge like Jonathan. I think their purpose in the story is that you can reach your goals and dreams if you try and work hard as mentions about two main characters.
