tudy on Drama of Ham Sae Duk

The national theatre period is the most dishonorable in the history of korean drama. Most study on this period have not been made because most writers of this period published a pro - Japanese drama designed to display Japanese Imperialism under the oppression of Japanese colonialism. That is, they remained to be settled beyond their purpose. Ham Sae Duk was one of the most active playwright in this period.
It is analysed his recognition on the reality and resistant spirit included in his works in this period. This showed writer's another attitude, he could have taken, as a member of the people like a giving up writing or resistig the imperialism.
His works was a part of the national or pro- Japanese drama in the point of having passed Japanese censorship, however, and included the disillusion of reality and the spirit of resistance based on the national consciousness in his works.
As a basic procedure, Ham Sae Duk's life, circumstances and those of dramas and plays in rhat time were considered first. And then the dramaturgy of high level unevenly at thosedays days was analysed from the view of structure, characters and language.
His dramaturgy is comparable to Yu Chi Jin who is a representative dramatist in Korea to nowadays. All of his works with equal level are estimated highly to be superior to those of Yu Chi Jin whose works consists of great works and poor ones.

The pain of national decay through the past was expressed in describing the falling dynasty BackJe. The high pride of our own culture was displayed in . Both are historical plays.
have a strong disillusion of reality to the extent that the most part of them should be eliminated. It satires a poor rural community and the exploitation of Japanese Imperiallism through dramas.
Some indicated a weak disillusion focused on a comic drama, however, it is proper to think that the oppression and exploitation of Japanese imperiallism was revealed via a laugh.
It seemed to be the most pro - Japanese drama among his works because of a pro - Japanese words in the end part of . But such words are just devices to pass the Japanese censorship suffering the pain of oppression and exploitation by other people and the sorrow of a weak people. And straightforwardly pro-Japanese can make a satire and ridicule.
So far his works defined as the pro-Japanese group superficially without detailed analysis of his works. We can find that its concealed disillusion and resistance against Japanese Imperialism. It must not be remained the void of the history of koran drama, averted as pro-Japanese drama period.
