Westerners think that the human spirit is important to discover the truth. Speaking eloquently leads to recognition.

[Eastern]
Easterners think that the truth comes from recognition of nature
By talking much, one loses trust. As one Korean proverb goes,
‘The empty vessels are the noisiest.”

진리에 있어서 서양인 같은 경우에는 진리를 발견하기 위해서는 인간의 정신 중요시 함으로써 토론할 때에도 말을 잘하면 인정을 받았습니다.
그러나 동양에서 진리는 자연에서의 깨달음이라 생각을 하였으며 빈 수레가 요란하다 라는 우리나라 속담처럼 말이 많으면 신뢰도가 떨어진다 하였습니다.

Concerning the truth, Westerners believed that the human spirit is the key to discovering it, and recognized those who were eloquent speakers in debates.
However, Easterners believed that truth could be recognized in nature. Also, as the Korean proverb “The empty vessels are the noisiest” shows, Easterners believed that by talking too much, one loses his or her credibility.

원리에서는 서양의 기본 원리는 identity로 보며 모든 원인은 내부에 있다고 생각을 하였습니다.
반대로 동양에서 기본 원리는 자연의 변화, 자연과의 상호관계를 중요시 여겼습니다.

In the realm of principles, Westerners believed that the basic principle of an object came from its “identity,” and believed that all causations came from within it.
On the contrary, Easterners emphasized the changes of nature and the mutual interactions and relationships with nature.
