　Korea and China have long influenced each other historically and culturally over many thousands of years. Before Hangul (Korean characters) was born, Koreans used Chinese characters (Hanja) as their own official writing system. Yet the Chinese script was only used by the intelligentsia of the country. However, the Korean people found that the Chinese script was not fully capable of expressing the words and meaning of the Korean spoken language. They realized that they needed a way to record the knowledge and wisdom they gained through the years. Thus, the “Hunmin jeong-um” was born.

　How then was Hangeul invented? There is a theory which stated that the root model of Hangeul invention is the “Garimto letters.” In BC 2181, a person called Eul-bo-reuk in Dangun Joseon dynasty made the new alphabet called “Garimto.
