Strictly speaking, translation is not just replacing the text of the source language with the text of the receptor language, but rather it is the translator's interpretation of the original text written in the
receptor language.
The translator's interpretation is not the same as the original text itself. The interpretation amounts to the translator's comprehension of the original text.
For this reason, how well the original text is translated depends more on how the translator understands the original text than on the text itself.
Last but not least, translators must bear in mind the different
settings of the secondary readers of the translated text, much as
the original authors must be aware of their intended readers. It is indisputable that the translated text survives only when the receptor readers succeed in understanding it as well as the readers of the original text understand the original text. Therefore, it is worthless if the translated text does not read naturally. Readers of both the original and translated texts, in reality, do not have the same backgrounds, linguistically or non linguistically.
Therefore, translators are required to take into account the fact that the readers of the translated text are not in the same position in regard to linguistics knowledge and cultural background.
Thus, the reorientation of the original text for different readers is necessary and legitimate to fill the gap between the different settings so that the translated text might be as intelligible for receptor readers as the original text is for readers of the source language text. With good reason, different translations may result from the same original.
