있음에도 불구하고 집단적 주체들 간의 상호주관적인 과정을 통하여 유럽정체성이 끊임없이 변화해오고 있음을 의미하는 것인데 이러한 점은 지방정체성과 국가정체성, 지역정체성 그리고 유럽연합의 정체성은 서로의 과거와 현재의 역사를 상호반영하고 있음을 지적해주는 것이다.
미래의 전망 차원에서 바라봤을 때, 유럽인들의 공동의 역사적 기억과 경험에 기반한 통합적이고 구조적인 유럽정체성과 현재 유럽인들의 물질적이고 안보적인 이해관계를 둘러 싼 상호주관적인 접촉과 교류 및 경쟁의 강화는 유럽의 정체성을 재통합시키는 동시에 앞으로도 지속적으로 변화시키는 동인으로 작용할 것이라고 할 수있다.
