A Study on the Effects of the Farmer Counseling
of Agriculture Extension Offices in Korea

The objectives of this study were: 1) to investigate the present conditions of farmer counseling by agriculture extension offices, 2) to identify the variables associated with the effects of farmer counseling by agriculture extension offices, and 3) to measure the farmer counseling effects by agriculture extension offices.
The data for this study were collected from 160 farmers using a face-to-face survey method March 27 to April 20 of 1998. 151 responds were used for data analysis after data cleaning. SAS program was utilized to analyze the data collected for this study. Correlation, ANOVA(Analysis of Variance), DUNCAN TEST, and Multiple Regression were employed to analyze the data with an a priori alpha level .05.
The following conclusions were formulated based on the findings of this study;
1. Statistically significant differences in group activities was found at the .10 significance level. Knowledge level and years of education were also statistically significant at the .01 significance level. Counseling for the farmers who did not have memberships in agricultural organizations was effective. Counseling for the farmers who showed lower knowledge level and had less years of education were effective.
2. Farming size was statistically significant at the .01 level of significance, respectively. Counseling for the farmers with larger farming lands was effective.
3. The analysis for the variables associated with counseling showed statistically significant differences in counseling frequency and counseling methods at the .05 level of significance. The counseling for the farmers with larger farming land and the farmers with more counseling frequencies were effective.
4. Counselors' abilities significantly influenced counseling effects for farmers as correlation analysis showed even though the results of regression for the evaluation of counselors and counseling effects showed that counselors' attitude and professionalism did not influence much counseling effects.
